March of Dimes Canada - After Stroke
St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador

March of Dimes Canada is a leading national charity committed to championing equity, empowering ability, and creating real change that will help the more than eight million people with disabilities across the country unlock the richness of their lives.

We serve, connect, and empower people with disabilities to participate fully in life — on their own terms. Our work is grounded in the voices of the people we serve, built on a foundation of service, and backed by an over 70-year history of success.

We’ve proven time and again our dedication to addressing the ongoing and urgent needs of people with disabilities, as well as their families and caregivers. Born in the last great public health epidemic, we know that seemingly-impossible goals can be achieved and barriers can be broken. In the 1950s, March of Dimes Canada helped in the global effort to find a cure for polio. We’ve since evolved to become a recognized leader in disability service design and delivery, supporting people at home, work, and in their communities with unparalleled reach and impact.

Now, inspired and guided by our community, we’re expanding our horizons even further. Together with our clients, partners, supporters, and allies, we are working to create communities in which people with disabilities can not only live, but thrive in all they aspire to do.

NL
Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador

NL Audio Guide is a community-driven initiative dedicated to making Newfoundland and Labrador’s history, culture, and natural beauty more accessible and engaging for everyone. We produce high-quality, multilingual audio tours that bring local stories to life—designed for tourists, newcomers, and residents alike who want to explore the province in a deeper, more personal way.

Our mission is to create an easy-to-use platform where anyone can walk through iconic places like Signal Hill, Quidi Vidi, or the streets of Bonavista and hear captivating stories told by local voices. From historical facts to folklore, from indigenous heritage to immigrant journeys, each guide is carefully researched and recorded to ensure authenticity and accessibility.

We work with local researchers, translators, audio artists, and volunteers to create and distribute these guides digitally through our website and mobile app. Our project is grassroots in spirit but growing with strong potential to impact tourism, education, and community engagement across the province.

By connecting people through storytelling, NL Audio Guide is not just a tourism tool—it’s a platform for cultural preservation, inclusive exploration, and community pride.

Newfoundland Helping Hand
St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador

Newfoundland Helping Hands: Empowering Communities Through Compassion.

Newfoundland Helping Hands is a community-focused charity dedicated to bridging the gap between those in need and those willing to help. Our mission is simple: to empower individuals facing hardships by providing them with the essential items they require to overcome challenges, restore dignity, and improve their quality of life.

Our innovative approach allows people who want to make a difference to contribute directly to fulfilling specific needs. We work closely with individuals who require assistance, guiding them through a process where they submit detailed invoices for essential items. This ensures transparency, accountability, and a targeted impact. Once approved, the funds are used by our dedicated team to purchase these items, guaranteeing that every donation makes a meaningful difference.

With the support of caring donors, Newfoundland Helping Hands aims to become a beacon of hope, providing practical solutions and uplifting our community one family at a time. Together, we can transform lives, create lasting change, and build a stronger, more compassionate Newfoundland.

Newfoundland Pony Society
St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador

The Newfoundland Pony Society (NPS) is the official organization responsible for the preservation and protection of the Newfoundland Pony. Under the Heritage Animal Act, the NPS is mandated to protect and maintain the Newfoundland Pony Registry.

In the Fall of 1979, a group of concerned pony owners held a public meeting in St. John’s and the Newfoundland Pony Society was created. The NPS was incorporated in 1981 as a registered charity (#8991 23053 RR0001).

The Society convinced the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador that the Newfoundland Pony was a living part of the province’s cultural history and as such, required legal protection before there were too few ponies to maintain a healthy population. This initiative resulted in the Heritage Animals Act being passed on December 19, 1996. The Newfoundland Pony and the Newfoundland Pony Society received their official designation under this Act on September 15, 1997.

Once in the thousands, there are now an estimated 500-600 Newfoundland Ponies in Canada and the U.S., with the actual number of breeding ponies much lower. This hard-working animal played an important role in the survival of rural Newfoundland; they hauled wood for building and heating houses, they pulled kelp from the beach for gardens, and were a dependable means of transportation for families.

NPS recently secured a 50-year agricultural lease on 25 acres of Crown land near Hopeall, Trinity Bay. We plan to restore the pasture and create a dedicated showcase area called The Newfoundland Pony Heritage Park. The park will provide free grazing pasture and breeding space for Newfoundland Pony owners in the area, in addition to a visitor centre for school groups, the public and tourists.
