Commonwealth War Graves Commission

Nonprofit
The CWGC is a global organization, caring for war graves at 23,000 locations in more than 150 countries and territories. We commemorate almost 1.7 million individuals, ensuring that all the Commonwealth men and women who died during both world wars are commemorated in a manner befitting their sacrifice. In Canada, we have launched a National Volunteer Program and we are currently recruiting in Newfoundland & Labrador. The program enables those with an interest in our work to act as our eyes in their local area. Volunteers will visit their local cemeteries and gather information about the condition of CWGC war graves. Training will be provided on all aspects of the work required including how to safely clean war graves. Volunteers will play a vital role in helping us to achieve our mandate to maintain CWGC war graves in perpetuity. Your help will make a real difference to our work commemorating the service men and women who died during the First and Second World Wars and are buried in Newfoundland & Labrador. With your help we hope to keep alive the stories of the men and women whom we commemorate. Please note: For this volunteer position, you will need to have a smartphone with data and access to a vehicle. Be advised that this work is outside in areas where the ground is often uneven and sometimes overgrown. Other Nonprofit

Burry Heights Camp and Retreat Centre

Nonprofit
Burry Heights is an outdoor adventure camp surrounded by nature. At this weekly sleep-away camp (Sunday to Friday) campers will take part in a range of activities, such as arts and crafts, hiking, canoeing, archery, and swimming. Each day, campers participate in Reflections/Vespers (spiritual fellowship activities), small group activities (rotated on a schedule), full group/team-based activities, and a nightly campfire. Our mandate is to “enrich and develop the lives of youth through the camping experience”. As a United Church Camp, we have daily reflection sessions that allow campers to consider their own lifestyle, to learn more about good morals and how to be a kind and compassionate person. We are a “technology free” camp, meaning no campers are allowed to have personal technological devices (mp3 players, smartphones, video games, tablets, etc.) with them at camp. Paid counsellors at our organization are responsible for the 24-hour supervision of campers (aged 9-15), planning daily activity sessions, for both small and large groups of campers, as well as the basic upkeep of the building.
