Disasters now endanger more Canadians and cause more devastation than ever before. Whenever they do, the Canadian Red Cross is prepared to help and ready to respond. 

As a volunteer in this role, you will:  

Work with a small team of trained responders, you will support clients affected by smaller disaster events such as house fires; 

This support will include assessing their short-term needs, providing access to immediate services such as shelter, food, clothing; 

Your compassion and caring for those affected will help them focus on the next steps and recovery; 

When not responding, you will help your team remain prepared and may get involved with community disaster preparedness initiatives that reduce the impact of disasters in your community; and 

You are willing to assist people in need in your community and you are able to take periodic on-call shifts.  

You bring these essential talents:  

Compassion and empathy; 

Strong verbal communication and client relations skills; 

Ability to work independently and to collaborate in a team environment; and 

Contributes to a healthy and safe working environment. 

 

All necessary training is provided.
